History
The following are brief notes on the history of the group which mostly rely on memory. We hope to develop this area of the site further.
The Group is said to have been formed on the 28th February 1927 however it was not registered at Scout Headquarters until December 1928.
Meetings have taken place at various locations in the village, firstly at some location in Victoria Road, then in the "Toc-H" hut which was located on the land in Russell Road behind the current URC, then in the "Old Hall" of the URC and when that was demolished in the current Church / Hall building complex.
In 1961 the Group was combined with the 45th Epping Forest which had met at the Methodist Church in Queens Road. There is still some equipment which we use which has "45th EF" painted or branded on it! For a while there were two scout troops in the Group - the "Warren" Troop and the "Knighton" Troop.
Also at various times there has been a sea scout patrol within the troop which was called the Seagull Patrol.
The history of the troop is best divided into the eras when different Scout Leaders were in charge-
