Since we first opened in 1994, many lives have been impacted by the use of our youth centre and other facilities. Our Centre is a place where young people meet for recreation and leisure in a safe, non-judgmental environment and we assist them to develop their potential in sport and the arts.
Active Christian Trust is partially funded through income generated from our Megazone laser game and hiring of our sports hall. Our youth club occupies a third of the building and has hundreds of young people attending each week, annual membership is only £2 with free entry to weekly evening activities and daytime sessions during school holidays. A very high level of volunteer input and commitment enables these sessions to operate safely and productively.
While the Centre aims to be self-sufficient on an ongoing basis, including the funding of qualified youth workers, grant funding is constantly required to help meet capital and operational costs. We are currently in the process of improving access and facilities for the disabled and are actively seeking funds for the installation of a disabled lift to provide greater access to different areas of the Centre.
Later this year, we hope to complete the development of a Creative Arts Theatre. This area is the current phase in the continuous improvement and development of our bold and innovative community facility. The huge potential that the Theatre offers in respect of music, drama and dance will greatly increase the involvement, enjoyment and personal growth of young people, as well as the wider community.
