The following update has been received by the Essex Police Watch Co-ordinator...

Dear All,

We've had some reports of individuals knocking on doors, claiming to be collecting for "Children in Need" without being able to produce relevant sponsorship paperwork.
These reports have come from outside of our area, but since Children in Need is coming up, can I please ask you advise your neighbours / members to ensure that if they are approached for sponsorship for this or any other charity, the individual does in fact hold the relevant paperwork.

It would be a pity if money given charitably for a good cause, was being mis-directed in this way. There have been a couple of incidents of diesel theft from vehicles, as well as more theft from oil tanks. In light of this, we'd advise people to ensure they have lockable fuel caps fitted to both cars and oil tanks.

Many thanks, Lindsay Baillie Watch Administrator

Theft of oil has become a real issue for Crime Prevention professionals. This was re-enforced by a recent Channel 4 News survey which gathered results from 32 UK police forces to compare fuel thefts between January and June 2007 with the same period in 2008. Across the UK fuel theft has increased by 222%, with Suffolk seeing increases of over 1,100%.

Securing tanks against oil theft has proven difficult until now. OilSecure offers a cost effective solution for everyone. Designed using tried and tested Yale wireless technology, the OilSecure wireless alarm system will help protect most types of oil tank and raise an audible alarm should unauthorised entry be attempted.

The system is easy to install, is concealed and as it is wireless it can be fitted in the most remote of sites and with a RRP to the general public of less than £150, is highly economical.

The OilSecure Oil Tank Alarm has a number of distinct benefits to consumers:

All parts are either concealed in the tank or are mounted away from the tank meaning the system cannot be tampered with without activating the alarm
Requires no drilling to fix to the tank which can void tank warranties
Is battery operated and wireless so can be fitted in any location no matter how remote (providing sensor is no more than 30m from the siren unit).
