News From Safer Harlow Partenership

Community & Youth Involvement

Crime and disorder affects everyone in the community. The agencies forming the Safer Harlow Partnership are working together to make Harlow a safer place in which to live, work, shop, and visit.

This is not, however, the whole story. Tackling crime and disorder isn’t just the responsibility of the public bodies, it is everyone’s responsibility. Without that often quoted term “community spirit,” residents can lose their sense of identity and ownership with the area in which they live, which can lead to a downward spiral of vandalism, disorder and increased crime, with no one prepared to take a stand against it. This sense of community is being increasingly recognised by Government as the way forward and is also one of the key priorities for Harlow Council, as demonstrated by the recent formation of its new Community Engagement Team which will be working to facilitate community led solutions to local problems.

Information on community groups, Neighbourhood Watch, residents associations, ethnic minority groups, and the Youth Council is provided in this section so that you can find out what is going on in your locality and more importantly how you can become an active member of your community.

This section of the Safer Harlow website also reflects the preventative side of crime and disorder. We aim as the site develops to provide a comprehensive directory of local clubs, groups and leisure activities which adults, parents, youths or children may find of interest when looking for things do in the town.

If you are interested in forming a residents association or would like to know more about community involvement and the benefits of being part of an active community group or project, please contact the Council’s Community Engagement Team on 01279 446655
