Our Origins

Buttsbury Art Society was formed in 1976 by Rose Ayton who converted her stable in Potash Road, Buttsbury, for studio use and invited other painters to join her.

The first session involved everyone in repairs, carpentry and the other kind of painting.

The group has grown and since moved to the Fold, Billericay Arts Centre, and Joan August is the only existing member from the original 1976 group.

Work is carried out in all media and includes landscapes, portraits, flower studies and abstract work.

Members also support local churches and charities and have provided paintings for medical centres to display in waiting rooms.
