The beautiful Chelmer Valley Local Nature Reserve links Chelmsford town centre to large residential areas across the north of town via foot and bike paths, through to Broomfield. The site is well loved and the Local Nature Reserve (LNR) includes the stretch of the river pathway known locally as ‘The Bunny Walk’. The site is home to a wide range of diverse wildlife and habitats, including now rare areas of old grassland, forgotten ponds perfect for newts, and frogs and, even the occasional signs of otter activity further up river!
The Friends of Chelmer Valley LNR are working to help develop the Chelmer Valley Local Nature Reserve into a permanent area for wildlife, education and recreation. Volunteers undertake various tasks ranging from practical conservation, running community events on site, recording plants and animals or helping promote and manage the project as part of the ‘friends’ group.
