Chelmsford Ladies Circle 182 are an active group with a varied programme of social events including bowling, croquet, walking, archery, drinking, meals out and weekends away.  To sum it up we'll try anything.

Our more creative members enjoy flower arranging, wirework, card making and pottery painting.  The less creative of us just have a laugh trying!

We also help Round Table at the firework display, walk the streets of Chelmsford with Santa and his sleigh and still find time for fundraising.

Our past fundraising ideas include a fashion show, chocoholics evening, murder mystery nights, quiz nights, wine tasting etc, etc, the list goes on.

March 10 update. The creative ones amongst us enjoyed a relaxing evening chatting and painting pottery.  Two weeks later we arrived at our Chairman’s house for the games night and were immediately taken back to our childhood; Scalextric set up in the lounge.  After several laps and not too much cheating we had a winner

February 10 update The Old Folks party was re-arranged for the beginning of February with the usual drinks on arrival, Christmas Dinner and entertainment.  It’s always good to see so many people enjoying themselves.  Our chocoholic evening wasn’t well attended again because of bad weather, even so those that did brave the cold had an enjoyable evening, raised some money and sampled chocolate and wine.  The CCTV evening was so interesting, not too much to see on screen because it was raining.  We’ll just have to arrange it again in the summer.  Our final February meeting was an Area business meeting in Chelmsford, a chance for local Circle’s to get together.

January 2010 update Sadly the Old Folks party was postponed because of bad weather and our first meeting was cancelled; it was mid January before we got together for a trip to the cinema.  Burns Night was as ever a great evening with lots of dancing and far too much alcohol.

December 09 update As usual December is a busy time for us walking the streets of Chelmsford with Santa and his sleigh, raising money for the Old Folks party in January.  It wouldn’t be Christmas without a Christmas party, this year we went for a Chinese.  I can say we were without doubt the nosiest group in the whole restaurant.

November 09 update An active start to the month with many members enjoying a game of badminton.  Thankfully the weather was kind to us this year and the Round Table firework display was hugely successful.  Despite a few hiccups surprise dining went extremely well, delicious food and great company enjoyed at both venues.  An extra event was organised this month; a few of us went to see the Full Monty.  I can only say the cast were very brave!  A Tiffany fundraiser was organised, perfect timing for purchasing a few Christmas pressies.

October 09 update The Tangent Murder Mystery evening was a great success.  No one actually guessed who done it but we did manage to raise well of £1000.  We were then off to the Civic to see a performance of Dinner Ladies before finalising a few more events at our business meeting.

September 09 update What happened to the summer?  The BBQ and hot tub evening was very enjoyable albeit rather wet!  Being an active bunch we planned an evening walk in Maldon; someone had the bright idea of allowing dogs.  As it was a chilly evening we wrapped up, chatted and walked along the promenade while watching the dogs having a great time in the water/mud.  Having had enough of this British weather we flew out to Madrid for the weekend for a bit of sunshine and sight seeing.

August 09 update raditionally meetings are not held in August however we made an exception this year and went to see Never Forget at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend.  Mid month a few of us got together for a bite to eat at Prezzo.

July 09 update Croquet is a lovely, sophisticated and friendly game, or so you’d think.  A bit of foul play and competitive spirit goes a long way.  After a few games we retired to a nearby pub for refreshments.  The curry fundraiser was a sell out.  Tasty food, great company, lots of laughs and we even managed to raise money for charity.

June 09 update After loosing several balls during pitch & putt Derwyn provided us all with cream teas – a very pleasant evening.  The strawberries & pimms fundraiser was a great success raising over £400.  Live entertainment and craft stalls including Jewellery, Handbags, Children’s Gifts, Home wares and Virgin Vie, what a lovely way to spend a summer evening.

May 09 update The planning meeting was well attended and we managed to arrange most events to the end of this year.  Caroline done us all proud at the curry & Wii night; the food was fab but our Wii playing was definitely not!

April 09 update The Easter Bunny Hunt was a huge success with a total sell out and I am pleased to say all bunnies were well behaved.  A few of us attended the Area AGM in Battlesbridge.  The following evening members of Ladies Circle presented the new Tindal Table Chairman with a small gift after a well rehearsed song and dance.  Out for three nights on the trot; our Circle AGM was well attended and true to form interrupted by members of Round Table.  This year they had prepared a small quiz for our new Chairman, sadly she didn’t do very well but made us all laugh.  The following week Table 132 held their AGM meaning another silly song a dance.  This time we encouraged Tablers to take part which went down very well.  Our final meeting was a fundraising Virgin Vie party hosted by one of our members.  We can now all look gorgeous with our new purchases.

March 09 update Chocolate yum - the Chocoholic party went well with lots to sample and many orders taken.  Most of us collected our purchases at the DVD night later in the month.  Once again we were eating, pizza this time, and not surprisingly didn’t watch much of the DVD.  Two members met the Mayor of Chelmsford along with other guests at a meeting to discuss the Classic Car Show to be held at Hylands Park in April.  Circle members will be there supporting the event by selling raffle tickets.  Our weekend in Salzburg was relaxing and very enjoyable although a little expensive.  We saw lots of magnificent views, eat, drank and laughed a lot.  What a great way to end the Circle year.

February 09 update What a lot of snow, well enough to make us tread carefully while on our way to the fish restaurant.  First time I’d been there, great food.   Young Natalie turned 40 and celebrated her birthday in style.  Then finally the pancake evening was filling, loads of savory and sweet pancakes to eat – yum.

January 09 update Happy New Year to everyone.  We started the year with a business meeting planning events for 2009.  Bowling was our first social event; the scoring wasn’t great as many balls went in the gutter oooops.  The Burns Night as ever was a great night, lots of whisky, dancing and Scottish poems.  Some of us went to London for Britain’s got Talent auditions.  Apart from a very very very long wait it was a great day out. We had very good seats so expect to be seen on TV. Some acts were really good, some not so and some really bad. Look out for the show in April.
