Weekly Message

Friday 16 May 2014

Dear colleagues and Residents,

This week started with the Basildon Council staff awards which I was pleased to attend. This year was bigger and better than ever and I’d like to congratulate all those who were nominated and those who won on the day.

On Tuesday I met with the Basildon Business Group to talk about economic development initiatives and had a meeting regarding the draft Annual Governance Statement which reflects on the effectiveness of the organisations governance arrangements.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending a School Legacy Games event at the Sporting Village with the Mayor Mo Larkin. Organised by Fit For Sport in partnership with Everyone Active and Basildon Council the games were an opportunity to deliver a lasting sports legacy to school children.

Looking ahead to next week the main event will of course be the Borough Council and European Parliamentary elections on Thursday 22 May which I know a lot of staff will be assisting with. I will also be appearing on Gateway FM for a Group Leaders election debate with councillors Nigel Smith, Geoff Williams and Phil Rackley.

On Friday I will be attending Wickford Memorial Park for a photo opportunity with the Wickford War Memorial Association for the opening of the Avenue of Remembrance and Memorial Garden.

Have a good weekend,

Tony Ball
