Some of you have been experiencing a problem when you’ve been trying to update the contact information on your website. In August a limit was introduced on the number of characters that could be used in the summary box (100 characters), sites developed before August with more than 100 characters in their summary are able to keep their long summaries but are unable to update the information in the 'Change organisation details' screen unless the summary is reduced to 100 characters or less. This can be a particular problem if users are using the original templates as this error is not pointed out clearly in red text and can be quite hard to see.

To update your information you will need to make sure that your summary is 100 characters or shorter otherwise any information you update on the 'Change organisational details' page will not be saved.

If you need help in working out how many characters there are in your summary you can count them by copying and pasting or typing it in to a word processing program such as Microsoft Word. To do this in Word:

  • Copy and paste or type the text into Word
  • Highlight the text
  • Click on 'Tools'
  • Then select 'Word count'

This should give you total of Characters (with or with out spaces) and Words. If you require any help with this please contact the support team who will be happy to help you.

Those of you who use the statistics function on your website, the statistics will reset at the beginning of January. Unfortunately once this has happened you will be unable to get the statistics for the year back. We recommend that you save the statistics before the 31st December.

You can save your statistics in Internet Explorer and Firefox web browsers by:
  • Logging on to your website then click on ‘Manage your website
  • Then ‘Site Statistics
  • Then using your web browser click on ‘File’ – ‘Save as
  • Select where you want to save your statistics to then in the file name box give your statistics name then under ‘Save as type’ select ‘Web Page HTML only
  • Then click ‘Save
This will save your statistics as a complete html file on your computer and it can be viewed offline in your web browser. If you need any help or advice regarding statistics please contact the support team by email (support@essexinfo.net) or over the phone on 01245 436559.
