It should be made clear that these sites have been submitted to the Council for consideration as part of the new Local Plan preparation. These sites have not yet been assessed for their suitability and no decision has been made whether they will be included in the new Local Plan.

COPFORD WITH EASTHORPE PARISH COUNCIL - EXTRACT FROM MINUTES FEBRUARY 2015

CONSULTATION – COLCHESTER BOROUGH COUNCIL’S NEW LOCAL PLAN – ISSUES AND OPTIONS.

Members noted information about Options 2a and 2b presented in this consultation with plans to build between 7500 – 15000 homes. The proposed site crosses the border with Braintree and also the borders of Marks Tey/Copford and Easthorpe and councillors were very concerned about the potential impact on our villages of such a development.

Members therefore RESOLVED: to comment as follows:

This Council are opposed to Options 2a and 2b as such large proposed growth would completely change the character and identity of surrounding rural villages which would be 'engulfed' by this new settlement of 7500 - 15000 homes. Additionally, this Council are concerned about the impact on both the A12 and A120 and resulting traffic through our village streets, all of which are struggling to cope with volumes of traffic already using these roads.

We have also reviewed our own existing settlement boundaries and may be prepared to see some changes to this boundary which allowed low density development in keeping with the existing community and which allowed the villages of Copford and Easthorpe to retain their own individual rural identities.
