Parish Meeting

Having their say - East Mersea Parishioners
Parish Meeting

There were about twenty people attending the Annual Parish Meeting in May at the Village Hall.

Dougal Urquhart, the Country Park Ranger, gave a report saying that substantial savings would have to be made in the coming year.

One of the main concerns of the Parishioners was the increasing volume of traffic through East Mersea. Where the road narrows to a single track there were problems of congestion and bad parking which causes problems for the school and community buses as well as lorries needing to turn failing to see that it was not a through road. Residents were concerned about future development or changes to business that might increase traffic.

Another concern was the safety of people, particularly the young, using the waters around the area of the Mersea Stone. This is designated as a Site of Interest to Nature Conservation and has very strong currents.

The Parishioners were informed that Stella Meesters would be giving a presentation on Village Appraisals at the June Parish Council Meeting. This is a community led project and everyone would have an interest in attending.

Councillor Robert Davidson gave a brief report which included a reminder that we would be receiving 52 black rubbish bags in one go this year.
