 Cudmore Grove Forum Meeting

First meeting of Cudmore Grove Forum

A small number of us met at the Ranger's Cottage in Cudmore Grove on Saturday 10 November 2007.

We discussed a wide range of topics relating to the running of the park in order to keep the prestigious Green Flag for next year.  Once again there were a number of East Mersea Parish Councillors attending together with our Clerk. This reflects the keeness of your Councillors to work on behalf of this community by supporting the hard work put in by our Ranger Dougal Urquhart. As a Parish Council we want to help where we can to involve the residents of East Mersea in the activities at the Park.

 Lighter Than Air

About fifty-five adults and children were treated to Danny's antics in his circuloso riduculoso on Friday 2 November. If you weren't there you certainly missed a treat as there was plenty of laughter at this family entertainment.

We would like to thank Danny, Essex On Tour, Paul Button and his team at the Mersea Outdoors Centre, Len Broadhurst and especially those who supported our first venture into providing a community fund raising venture.

 New Youth Centre Manager

Paul Button of Mersea Outdoors

The Parish Council would like to congratulate Paul Button on his recent appointment as Manager of the Mersea Outdoors centre in East Mersea.

Paul has a great enthusiasm for his work and we wish him every success.

 Litterpicking

Gill Mann on our litterpick day

Many thanks to those who helped with the latest litterpick.

Once again it was the same few people which is such a shame as it was a lovely day and is a missed opportunity to build some community spirit here in East Mersea.

Apparently some people think that the Council should pay for the litter to be picked up but others feel that a bit of work keeping our village cleaner means valuable funds are left for other more pressing needs. What do you think? Have a look at the discussions page and add your comments.

EAST MERSEA PARISH COUNCIL PROUDLY PRESENT A FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT BY ESSEX ON TOUR

Please come along to the Mersea Outdoors Centre on Friday 2 November at 7pm when you will be able to enjoy a family entertainment brought to you by Essex On Tour.

Danny Schlesinger is Circo Ridiculoso-a one man circus troupe, an expert in eccentricity, a visual poet, a certified fool, a multi-talented modern vaudeville artist and a wild rubber tamer. Funny and yet moving, his unique style (and Theater of Balloons) gives the audience an utterly joyous experience to remember for a lifetime. For ages 10 years and over, or anyone who loves a bit of silliness. The show is approximately one hour with no interval and you can see him performing his one man show at the Youth Camp on Friday 2nd November.

Tickets available from Len Broadhurst 383894, Teresa Parkins 385112 or Peter Mann 383224. They cost £3.00 adults (£3.50 on the night) and £1.50 children.

GREEN FLAG PRESENTATION

Dougal Urquhart is presented with the Green Flag at a ceremony
in the East Mersea Country Park on Tuesday 4 September 2007. It is unusual for the award to be made on the first application but considering the amount of hard work put in by Dougal and others it is well deserved.
Peter Mann, Chairman of East Mersea Parish Council, seen here in the photograph second from left holding the flag was accompanied by other Parish Councillors and the Clerk on this happy occasion. The park is a wonderful asset to this community and one we are very proud of and the Parish Council will be supporting Dougal in maintaining Green Flag status.
Well done Dougal and all the other team members involved.

 BRIGHTLINGSEA FERRY VISIT

The Clerk and Councillors visited Brightlingsea on the Ferry on Friday 24 August to deliver a cheque for £20 to go towards the cost of printing the Ferry Timetable.

Over 6,000 people visited East Mersea using the Ferry last year and it looks like the numbers have increased this year despite the lack of sunshine.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the business in and around our village and we hope that they will consider joining those who already advertise themselves on the Ferry timetable next year. The Parish Council is also hoping to arrange to use the Community Bus to meet the Ferry and any support from local businesses in this venture would benefit both local people and visitors, so please contact the Clerk, Len Broadhurst on 383894 if you are interested in helping.

The Parish Party

Lots of people came along to the Parish Party and enjoyed a lovely buffet provided by the Clerk, Len Broadhurst and his wife, Jean. Thank you both for all your hard work that evening.
Thanks also to Ron Green for bringing along a display of memories of East Mersea.
We were also delighted to have Stella Meesters from the Rural Community Council of Essex. Stella introduced us all to Parish Plans and will be contacting those who showed an interest in getting involved.

The Litter Pick

Saturday 25 November 2006

It may have been a wet and blustery day but it didn't stop a small group of local residents from tidying up their patch.

Sensibly Elizabeth arrived well wrapped up and even Len our Parish Clerk got stuck in - almost literally - and just look at the Thorley's bootload of litter.

On Friday 17 November 2006, members of East Mersea Parish Council met with a Highways Officer. We met at the Turning Circle and thanks to the photographs taken by local residents the problems of parking and difficulties of lorries turning were well illustrated.
We also asked for some directional signs for Ferry traffic as well as a review of the ditches and drainage.
The width of the double yellow lines are perfectly legal - so no excuses for parking on them!
