Parish Council Annual Grants To Local Organisations

The Parish Council will be awarding Grants to eight local village organisations on Thursday 18th February 2010 at 7.00pm in the Community Centre everyone welcome !!

Crossing for Colchester Road

The Parish Council is fighting for a Pedestrian Crossing near to the Oatlands entrance on Colchester Road.   This would be a huge help to Villagers using the Post Office, local school, doctors surgery and the bus stops.

On the 14th December, Ray Smith from Essex County Council visited the Village and the Parish Councillors to discuss the prospect of a Crossing and following this visit a speed and usage survey was carried out on the 14th January.

The Survey showed that the Road is extremely busy and ECC have scheduled a further speed survey and pedestrian survey between April and July 2010.

In order for Essex County Council to consider the prospect of a Crossing they must establish a real need from local residents. If you support the Crossing fight PLEASE write to Cathy Burling, Parish Clerk at the Community Centre, giving the ways that you and your family would benefit and your letters will be passed on to Mr. Smith.

Road and Paths Update

Essex County Council and the Parish Council carried out a Village Inspection of the Paths and Roads.  Many of the pavements in the Village are in need of urgent attention and this will be attended to once funding is available.  The Gulley at the end of Church Road will be cleared.  Pot holes in Slough Road, Carpenters Lane and Tye Road have also been reported.  If you see any areas of Pavement or Highway that are in need of attention please contact Cathy and she will arrange for Essex County Council to take a look.

Old Post Office

The Parish Council had a visit from the Heritage and Conservation Manager from Tendring District Council in December who confirmed that he is working closely with the owner of the Old Post Office.  The property is not viewed to be salvageable and so it is hoped that an application to demolish the damaged building will be made within the next few months and an application for a replacement building of the same style to be submitted within twelve months.
Local Tradesmen

The Parish Council are obliged to obtain three quotes whenever work is carried out around the Village.  If you are a local tradesman and would like to be given the opportunity to quote for jobs when they arise please contact Cathy Burling at the Parish Office.
