The bold and simple style of this ancient holy buidling is very impressive.

It was located on the west gate of the Roman fort and walled town of Othona.

The Othona Roman fort was only abandoned by the Romans a mere 200 years before Cedd came to restore part of it as a church.

It was the ruin of a Roman building rebuilt by Bishop, later Saint Cedd.

It was built in 643 AD and it  became and still remains one of Britain's oldest churches, still in use today.
