The Town Council comprises five quite distinct communities: Frinton on Sea, Great Holland, Kirby Cross, Kirby le Soken and Walton on the Naze. The Town Council is situated on the Essex Coast, in the area of the Tendring District Council. The Town Council was established in 1974 as a successor Town Council to the former Urban District Council.
The Town has a population of 19,039 some 9055 households contained within an area of 2808.19 hectares.
The Town Council has sixteen Councillors elected in 2011. The Town Council meets every three weeks. The Town Council's only committee, the Recreation and Amenities Committee meets every six weeks or more frequently if volume of business demands. The Town Council has a major leisure facility, the Columbine Centre at Princes Esplanade, Walton on the Naze.

The Town Council comments on all planning applications affecting the Town. Its other responsibilities include tree planting, bus shelters, seafront shelters, village greens and commons, play areas, a skateboard park, the Town Hard and public seats. A major new venture in 2004 was the recruitment, with Essex Police, of six Police Community Support Officers with a further two recruitments in 2006 now totalling eight. It is hoped that they will continue to have a significant impact on nuisance, crime and disorder.

The Town Council precept of 2015/16 is £349,996 (also in receipt of £45,572 LCTSS Grant from Tendring District Council) and the effect on an average Band D Council tax bill is £47.83.
