Horkesley Football Club

Horkesley FC was established in July 2011 by the now Manager Robert Brown and the Chairman Michael Carroll.

This is a resurrection of the previous Great Horkesley FC who played in the 1970/80s in the Colchester & East Essex League, the team folded in the mid eighties. The team was originally run by the late Derek "Duke" Harden. The now Manager of Horkesley FC Bob Brown was a player with the club in the original format.

For many years the club has been looking for a ground within the village, which unfortunately hasn't happened. Therefore the team played then, as they do now, at Mile End Recreation Ground. However, there is hope that a ground may be possible in the next couple of years.

The team that has now been formed is set on the foundation of the previous Colchester Hotspurs team which Bob Brown has managed for the past three seasons. The decision was made by the committee and players to change their name from Colchester Hotspur to Horkesley FC at the end of the 2010/11 season.

The team has started their new campaign of 2011/12 in the Premier Division of the Colchester & East Essex League.

The team's logo is based on Chapel Cottage, Great Horkesley which has great history behind it going back to Oliver Cromwell times. The cottage is still occupied by the Manager's parents. The nickname of "The Cottagers" is based on this building.

When the team was formed around 30 players turned up for trials which resulted in us not being able to accommodate everyone. However, there is a possibility that next season we will endeavour to either field a reserve team or a Sunday team, probably called "Half Butt", depending on interest.
