Broadband Upgrade

Frustrated at the recent news that Great Holland is to be excluded from the Frinton telephone exchange upgrade (01255 numbers) - residents have requested tht the GHRA assist them in taking action.

Cllr Robert Bucke has been leading the campaign and together with the Frinton & Walton Gazette, have brought the injustice to the attention of businesses and residents of Gt Holland and Kirby.

The Openreach website (available by clicking HERE) states :
"The UK Government has an ambition for the whole country to have the best superfast broadband network in the EU by 2015. This is a hugely ambitious target and the discussions around funding it have raged for years. Rather than debate the issue, we decided to invest £2.5 billion into the deployment of a superfast fibre infrastructure for the UK."
However Gt Holland & Kirby are to be left behind - leaving the residents paying the same as Frinton, but for a service TEN TIMES slower !

John Poulten has sent an email to the owners of the telecom infrastructure OpenReach (a BT subsidiary) - appealing to them to reconsider - however in such matters - the higher the VOLUME of public concern, the more likely a change of policy  is to take place.

What Can YOU do ?

Email Openreach on the email address below - and copy in your MP for support,
A suggested template of words is provided below - however you may well wish to add your own examples of why a slow service disadvantages your life / business / opportunities.

Please be sure to cc Robert Bucke and John Poulten for information - so that we are aware of objections / concerns which have been raised.

And remember : if you don't - you could be waiting a VERY long time before your internet speed catches up with the rest of the country !

Dear Sir

I am writing to express my concern over what appears to be a decision to leave the Telecom services of Great Holland, Essex at a considerable disadvantage to surrounding areas.

Recent investment on the Frinton-on-Sea telephone exchange has been widely celebrated with many heralding the installation of fibre optic as a welcome service, in line with recently announced Government Strategy regarding Sustainable Development in Rural Areas.

However, despite Great Holland residing on the same 01255 exchange, we have, this week, been advised that the service will not be extended to the village. Great Holland is probably as close to the exchange as the Naze end of Walton (also 01255), which IS included in your upgrade.

As an Internet user in Great Holland, I already suffer a much slower service than Frinton and such a decision would I feel lead to further isolate my community which already receives a poorer service than my telephone exchange 'neighbours' who pay the same price for the service and will continue to do so.

The typical Broadband speed in Great Holland is around the sub Two Meg. mark, with upload speeds being less than half of that.

With more and more business and entertainment services expecting consumers to have an adequate broadband connection, an inadequate line speed such as mine leaves me unable to take advantage of their offers and services.

May I therefore appeal to you to reconsider your decision to seemingly penalise me for living in Great Holland and tell me what could be done to bring all users of the Frinton Exchange up to the same level of service.

Yours sincerely
