A Little Piece Of History

 

The original Reading Room building is believed to have been built in 1898 and was originally known as the Jubilee Reading Room. For a period of time you could borrow and return your library books there.

 

 

Improvements

 

2002

The Reading Room was severely damaged in the 2002 floods.  The kitchen fittings and main floor were replaced, with funds from an insurance claim.

 

2003

Following damage to the roof through vandalism, the entire roof was retiled with funds from an insurance claim.

 

2004

The flat roofs over the kitchen and toilets were replaced.

 

2005

A store room was converted to a disabled toilet and a disabled access ramp installed with funding from the Small Lottery Fund (Awards for all).

 

2009

Roof installation added into the attic of the main hall area with funding received.

 

2009

Double glazed windows installed with funding received.

 

2011

Parent and Toddler Group cupboard floor collapses due to previous flood damage and is replaced with funds through insurance.

 

2012

New office area created for Parish Clerk to use as a permanent base.

 

2012

Refurbishment of toilet block and cavity wall installation with funding received.

 

2012

Replacement Fascia and Guttering to the rear of the building with funding received.

 

2015

Replacement of fencing to rear garden.

 

2015

Purchase of new small and large tables with wheeled table storage.

 

2015

Redecoration of main hall areas.

 

2016

Front garden and pathways renewed with remembrance benches installed.
