Update: Hoe Mill Bridge, The Causeway As you may be aware, structural defects have been identified during erosion protection works at Hoe Mill Bridge.  In order to reopen the bridge a temporary traffic order to implement a width restriction has been approved and Essex Highways are in the process of tendering the works. They anticipate following the tender process, works to implement the width restriction will be undertaken once the scour protection has been completed but please be advised the start date is subject to the contractor availability.  It is proposed a physical width restriction, consisting of concrete barriers at the ends with chevrons, barrier guard and water filled barriers to guide vehicles through will be implemented. Advance warning signs for the width restriction and a wide vehicle diversion (this will be the same as the current diversion route) will be in place. They have been advised temporary two-way traffic lights may also be required in addition to the width restriction to help manage traffic flow over the bridge.  The scour protection works have resumed on site as part of the erosion protection works. Full Link:https://www.essexhighways.org/transport-and-roads/highway-schemes-and-developments/highway-schemes/hoe-mill-bridge-woodham-walter.aspx

Meet up Mondays have been running within the Braintree District for one year now. Meet up Mondays are a chance for people to get out and socialise with other people from the district over a free tea or coffee to help combat social isolation and loneliness.

Check out this video where we talk to one of the Meet up Monday supporters, café owner Rachel McMillan and her regular visitors about how the first year of the scheme has been.

See if there is a Meet up Monday in your parish or encourage a business to sign up to the scheme here.

If you are a local organisation who is in need of additional funding, please consider making an application to the Parish Council's grant fund.  Please read the POLICY and submit the application FORM as soon as possible.

***

An additional source of funding can be found from the High Sheriffs’ Fund which is open for grant applications.  Voluntary and community groups across Essex, who are working to make their communities safer and better places in which to live, can now apply for a grant of up to £5,000 to support their work.  Projects that have received funding previously include a personal safety scheme for older people, educating young people about the dangers of carrying a knife and deterring drug and alcohol abuse.

The EALC would really appreciate your help in spreading the word so that local voluntary and community organisations are aware of this funding opportunity.  Further information, including the criteria and application form, can be found here.

Erosion protection meaures are planned at Hoe Mill Bridge which carries The Causeway over the River Chelmer in Woodham Walter, south of Ulting.  A full time road closure will be necessary to protect the public and the workforce as heavy machinery and equipment will be in use and manoeuvred on the highway.  Works are due to start at the end of the school summer holiday to minimise the impact on visitors vesting Hoe Mill Lock.  Please see here for further information:
