Adding images and documents to your pages

To make your site more interesting and informative you can also include images, documents and links on the pages you have created.

Adding images and documents is a two-step process. You must first upload your image or documents to the ‘Assets Library' to ensure they can be seen by other online users. Once the image or document is uploaded to the library you can add it to pages on your site.
You can use the same method outlined below to upload as many documents, images, audio or visual clips to the site as you require.

NOTE: Images must be saved in either jpeg (.jpg) or gif (.gif) formats

Add an image to the Asset Library

  • Go to ‘Manage Website' and then ‘Use customised pages'
  • Click ‘Assets Library' (1)

To add a new image:

  • Click ‘Add Image'
  • Add a Caption (short description of image). This caption is the alt-text and should be a descriptive text to aid the partially sighted; and is displayed when you hover over the image
  • Add any Copyright information (optional)
  • Click ‘Browse' to find the image your computer you want to use then click ‘Open'
  • When it is displayed in the window, click ‘Save and Publish'. This will upload it to your image library, and from here, you can choose to display it on specific pages on the site
  • Add further images as required. You can use the same method to upload as many images to the site as you require
  • Click ‘Back to Homepage' 1

Add an image to a page

  • Choose the page where you want to add the image
  • Click ‘Edit this Page' (available on Home, About, News and customised pages)
  • In the Body text place cursor where you want the image to go
  • Click ‘Add Image' icon in the toolbar, the one with the picture of the tree (2)

  • Click the Radio button above the image to select it from the list and enter the ‘Alternative Text' in the box provided (this should be a descriptive text to aid partially sighted people and is displayed when you hover over the image). Select a border width if required then click ‘Add'
  • Your image will appear in the page editor (if you wish to delete, select the image and press delete on your keyboard)
  • You can then resize by clicking on a corner of the image and holding mouse button down to drag to required size
  • You may then add any further content to your page, as required
  • Click ‘Save changes' or ‘Save and Publish'
  • Select the preview link or click ‘Back to homepage' to view your changes
  • You may need to refresh your screen for this to show up - press F5 on your keyboard

Add a document to the Asset Library

  • Select the page from the side navigation bar and click ‘Edit this page'
  • Click ‘Assets Library'
  • Choose the option ‘Add Document'
  • Add a title in the ‘Title' box to describe the document
  • Use the ‘Teaser' to give a brief summary of the document
  • Optionally add Copyright details including author, author's email
  • Click ‘Browse' to select a document from your computer (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/PDF/Text etc.)
  • Click ‘Save and Publish'
  • Add further documents as required. You can use the same method to upload as many documents to the site as you require
  • Go back to the homepage

Add a document to a page

  • Select the page where you want to add the document and click ‘Edit this page'
  • Enter the text that you wish to link to the document (e.g. Latest report...) and highlight it (left click and hold, then drag) or highlight any existing text
  • Click on ‘Insert Link' icon (3)

  • In the popup click ‘Create Link to Asset or Page'
  • This brings up a ‘Pick Item' explorer
  • Navigate to your document by clicking ‘+' to open (expand) ‘Assets' and then expand ‘Documents' in the same way to see your document/s.
  • Click the link to your document - you can open the link in a new window which means that people remain in the site when they close the document.
  • Click ‘Insert'
  • Click ‘Save and Publish'
  • You may need to refresh your browser screen to see the changes - press F5 on your keyboard
  • Follow the same steps to add the other data types into the asset library e.g. audio & video files.

Insert a link to a web page

  • Find the web page you want to create a link to and copy the web address (URL) eg http://www.bbc.co.uk
  • Select the page where you want to add the link
  • Click ‘Edit this Page'
  • Either simply paste the website address into the page
  • Or enter the text that describes the link e.g. ‘News':
  • Highlight the text
  • Click the ‘Add Link' icon in the toolbar (4)

  • A popup form appears - paste the full web address (URL) into the URL field on form
  • Click ‘Add' and your text will be made into a link e.g. News (will link to http://www.bbc.co.uk - please note that without the http://www. the link will not work)
  • Click ‘Save changes' or ‘Save and Publish'
  • Select the ‘Preview' link or click ‘Back to homepage' to view your changes
  • You may need to refresh your browser screen to see the changes - press F5 on your keyboard
