Getting started
This section will take you through registering and applying for your website with essexinfo.net. By the end of this worksheet you will have a basic website set up for you to use.
Registering with essexinfo.net
Before applying for your free website you need to be a registered user with essexinfo.net. You will need an email address to receive confirmation of your registration.
To register with essexinfo.net:
- Go to www.essexinfo.net
- Click on 'Register' from the main homepage
- Enter your email and personal details and choose a password
- You can set up a screen name that will be used every time you log in so your real name is not given if you participate in forums and surveys. This field is optional
- Click 'OK'
- Read the 'Terms and conditions' by clicking the link. Click the box to accept and press 'OK'. You must accept the 'Terms and conditions' to use essexinfo.net
- An email will be sent to you to confirm your registration. Follow the instructions on the email to log in
- Once you have logged in, you can click 'Your Account' to change your details
Applying for a website
You can now apply for your website. The information from your application form will be used to create the homepage of your website. You can edit these details later if you wish.
To apply for a website:
- Either follow the instructions on the email or go to www.essexinfo.net
- Login using your email and password
- Select 'Apply for a website'
- Fill in the application form - the fields indicated by a (*) must be filled in
| Your contact details | These are confidential and will not appear on the site |
| Organisation Information | Name of your organisation (ie not your own name). This will appear at the top of your ewebsite |
| Summary | A brief description of your organisation which will appear in the A-Z listing, can be no longer than 100 characters |
| Description | A more detailed description to appear on your homepage (this can be edited later) |
| Organisation Contact Details | Including contact address, phone number and email address |
| Organisation Service Details | Select relevant categories for your organisation and on the next page, the geographical area/s it serves...you need to select at least one category and geographical area. This will help users find your site more easily. |
| Terms and Conditions | You have to read and agree to the 'Terms and conditions' before you submit your application |
Once you have submitted your application, you should receive an email from us within three working days informing you whether you have been successful in your application.
You are now the 'Administrator' of your site
Note: You can have more than one website. You don't need to register for each website you apply for. If you do register more than once you will have to supply a different email address. For those with a generic email eg info@organisation.com please contact us if the administrator changes but will be using the same email address.
Already have a website?
If you already have a website and wish to register your site on our directory, follow the process above. Once you have received your new website, you can redirect it to your existing website address.
- Redirect your essexinfo.net site URL to your own site within the 'Manage Website' area
- Click 'Use another website address '
- Enter the URL of your website and set the 'Use External Site' to Yes
Alternatively, if you would like your existing website to point to your new essexinfo.net site, just tell your ISP (Internet Service Provider' , to redirect your web address (http://www.mygroup.co.uk/) to your site on essexinfo.net (www.essexinfo.net/mygroup)
Accessing your website
To access your website either:
- Go to the A-Z directory listing on www.essexinfo.net, click your website name and log in using your username and password; or
- Use the link in the confirmation email sent to you then enter your user name and password
