Managing Your Home Page
When you join essexinfo.net your Home Page is automatically created including contact details. You may wish to update it or to take control of it so that you can develop your own content. Below is advice about adding a front page image and editing the contact details which appear on the front page
Add an image to the Asset Library
Before you can use an image on your front page you must first save it to the Asset library of your website.
- Go to ‘Manage Website’ and then ‘Use customised pages’
- Click ‘Assets Library’ (1)
To add a new image:
- Add a Caption (short description of image). This caption is the alt-text and should be a descriptive text to aid the partially sighted; and is displayed when you hover over the image
- Add any Copyright information (optional)
- Click ‘Browse’ to find the image your computer you want to use and click ‘Open’
- When it is displayed in the window, click ‘Save and Publish’. This will upload it to your image library, and from here, you can choose to display it on specific pages on the site
- Add further images as required. You can use the same method to upload as many images to the site as you require
- Click 'Back to homepage'
Adding the image to the front page of your website
- From the Homepage click on ‘Edit this Page’
- You should now see a What you see is what you get (WYSIWYG) editor
- Click in the WYSIWYG editor and then click on the add image button
- A new window should appear with any images you have added to the assets library
- Click the radio button above the image you want on the front page to select it from the list and enter the 'Alternative Text' in the box provided (this should be a descriptive text to aidpartially sighted people and is displayed when you hover over the image). Select a boredr width if required then click 'Add'
- Your image will appear in the page editor (if you wish to delete, select the image and press delete on the keyboard)
- You can then resize by clicking on a corner of the image and holding mouse button down to drag to the required size
- You may then add any further content to your page (such as text), as required
- Click 'Save and publish'
- Select the preview link or click 'Back to homepage' to viewn your changes
- You may need to refresh your screen for this to show up - press F5 on your keyboard
Removing the contact details from the homepage
You can remove the contact details which automatically appear on the screen of your home page.
- From the Home page click on'Edit this page'
- Click on 'Layout'
- Click 'Create a new revision to make changes'
- You should now see a screen with 2 vertical bars, one called ‘Trash' and one called ‘Content'. In the content bar you will see several boxes including a content box and several community information boxes these are called includlets (1). In order to remove the contact details you need to move the community information includlets to the trash column. You can do this by clicking on the boxes with the left mouse button and holding it down and dragging the box into the trash column and then letting go of the mouse button.

- Each community information box contains a different piece of text which appears on the front page. This information is taken from the application If you hover over one of the includlets a box will appear telling you what information the includlet contains
- extra_desc: is the description of your organisation your filled in on the application form - If you only wish to remove the contact details from your front page do not move this includlet to ‘Trash'
- location_address_id: is the address where your organisation meets
- address_id: is the contact address for your organisation
- Email: is the contact email address for your organisation
- telephone_id: is the contact telephone number for your organisation
- mobile_id: is the contact mobile number for your organisation
- community_calendar: is a link to the events section of your website. If there are any events coming up a link to them will appear on your front page
- latest news: if there are any news stories in the ‘News' section of your page a link to them will appear here
Once you have moved all the Community information includlets you no longer want on the front page to the ‘Trash' click on the preview button so you can see what your website would look like without the information on your front page
When you're happy with the look of your the front page click on ‘Publish'

- Underneath ‘There are unpublished changes' click on ‘Publish' (1) then click ‘OK' on the dialog box which appears
- Your new version of your home page should be ready view now. Click on ‘Back to homepage' then refresh the page with the F5 key to view.
