RSS Feeds

RSS (RDF Site Summary - formerly called Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) or web feeds can be used to provide up-to-date information on your website from other websites.  

A website (for example, the BBC) can make ‘available' some of its content, such as news headlines or stories. You as a user can subscribe to that feed and display its content on your website.

For more detail on feeds see the BBC website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/ go to ‘What is RSS' on the left hand navigation bar or http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/rss/default.stm).

You can structure this page into subjects (or aggregators) and then subscribe to feeds within those subjects.

Adding a subject (aggregator)

  • Enable the ‘Feeds' page from the ‘Manage Website' and ‘Use standard pages' menu
  • Select the ‘Feeds' page from the left hand navigation menu
  • To create a subject for your feeds, click ‘Create New Subject'
  • Add a title and add a description for your subject
  • Click ‘OK'
  • This will take you to the details of your subject entry where you can add a feed

Editing a subject (aggregator)

  • Click on the subject title on the Feeds page
  • Select ‘Manage This Subject' to edit your subject name or description
  • Click ‘OK'

Adding a feed or subscription

  • Click on your subject title on the feeds page
  • Select ‘Manage Subscriptions' to add a feed to your subject
  • Enter the website address of the feed you want to subscribe to into the ‘Source website address' field
  • Click ‘Add'

Deleting a feed or subscription

  • Click on the title of the subject that contains the feed or subscription you want to delete
  • Click on ‘Manage Subscriptions'
  • Check the box of the feed you wish to delete and click ‘Delete'
  • If you wish to move or copy a feed or subscription, instead of clicking ‘Delete', select ‘Move' or ‘Copy' and choose from the drop down menu the name of the subject you wish to move or copy the subscription to
