A lottery grant will help Kelvedon in Bloom in its quest for Gold in this year’s Anglia in Bloom campaign.
We have received £10,000 from Awards for All to provide new planting containers and new seating, a litter bin and a pop-up shelter. For the last two years, Kelvedon in Bloom has achieved Silver Gilt at the regional awards, falling just short of Gold. The cash injection will enable the group to raise standards. ‘We were aware that many of the barrels, that were purchased by the Parish Council for our group to plant in the High Street, are past their best and need replacing and the new containers will look so much better as well as providing the opportunity for more imaginative floral displays, especially as we have ordered enough to spread further around the village, not just in the High Street’ said Lesley Hill, ‘In addition we wanted to improve our water conservation so all of the new containers have inbuilt water reservoirs.’
Our new planters are now in place and planted.
The new seat and bin have been installed outside Kelvedon and Feering Health Centre, providing an additional resting place along the long High Street .
‘We use local contractors wherever possible and this was no exception’ said Lesley. ‘We are grateful to local businesses for their continued support and sponsorship of our activities’. The Instant Shelter, with it’s ‘Kelvedon in Bloom’ logos and message ‘WORKING WITH AND FOR THE COMMUNITY’ will provide weather cover for volunteers when selling plants at the Kelvedon Free Music Festival and in the High Street to raise funds and when planting containers. It will also afford extra shelter on Brockwell Meadows when family and youth days are held for residents to enjoy getting close to nature, pond dipping, tree bashing etc.
Kelvedon in Bloom is working with Connaught PLC on a new project to, hopefully, place additional containers and floral displays on estates away from the High Street.
‘This is an exciting new direction for us’ said Lesley, ‘and an opportunity to get more people involved in caring for the appearance of their village.’
