Welcome to the Kids in Need Committee

Chair person - Jo

I'm Jo and have been a Kids in Need committee member for 7 years. I first got involved with the charity over 25 years ago when my mum (along with a group of her friends) set the charity up. My earliest memory of Kids in Need was when I was 7 and I was allowed to stay up really late (well until 9pm) to help in the knit-athon that was being held. From there I never looked back and am proud to be part of such a great organisation that keeps going from strength to strength. Over the years I have held the position of press officer and web coordinator.

Vice Chair - Gemma

My name is Gemma and I have been a committee member for over 8 years. I have always been involved with the Charity as far back as I can remember as my mum was one of a group of friends who set up the charity. For years I helped out by cleaning cutlery for the dinner dance until I was finally old enough to attend. I am really proud to be part of this charity and we have helped to put a smile on so many deserving children's faces. I have previously been the donations co-ordinator, but since this role, I still actively support the new person in this post.

Project Coordinator - Lol-

I was first introduced to Kids in Need by my wife some 13 years ago and have been involved in the many aspects of the charity. Whether it's assisting with wishes or helping put an event together to raise much needed funds, it is all so fulfilling. Kids in Need is like an extended family where we all get together to achieve one common goal. With not one committee member being remunerated for their time and efforts, I am extremely proud to be part of such a wonderful team.

Secretary - Linda

27 years ago I started, along with just 3 other friends, Kids in Need to help children and their families who were less fortunate, medically speaking, than us. I have assisted in bringing the wishes to fruition for hundreds of children who met celebrities such as Kylie Minogue, Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker to name just three. Almost half of my life has been spend doing this and I wouldn't have changed any of it and will continue to do so with it being so rewarding for everybody concerned.

Treasurer - Marc

My name is Marc, and compared to others I am a new recruit to the Committee as I have only just completed my 2nd year as a full member.

My first encounter with Kids in Need was as a guest at the Race Night in 2007. Here, apart from parting with my cash to a very worthy cause (I didn't win one bet!!!), I met my wife Emma (also a Committee member). I can honestly say that we are lucky enough as a charity to have some brilliant supporters and a very dedicated Committee which I'm extremely proud to be part of.

Press Officer - Koulla

My name is Koulla and I have been on the Kids in Need committee over ten years. I joined when a friend that worked at my doctors surgery introduced me to the rest of the committee. At the time I was going through a rough time and she thought it might help me focus on something that was rewarding. Since I have not looked back. I got over my personal problems and I thoroughly enjoy being part of Kids in Need. It's rewarding to see the smile on the children's faces. A lot of these children have little to smile about with the disabilities they have to endure. Its rewarding to bring a smile to their faces and see them forget what they have even if it's just for a little while.

David

My name is David and I am one of the founder members of the charity. I count myself fortunate that over the past 28 years I have been able to be part of a magnificent team of volunteers whose drive and commitment has enabled the charity to flourish and prosper. Equally I have had the pleasure and privilege of meeting many wonderful children and their families in the course of granting wishes. Many of these families remain in contact with us to this day and continue to support us in the work we are doing with this particularly deserving group pf young people. In my capacity as Chairman for 2009 I looked forward to another year of enjoyable and successful fundraising events with a view to granting as many wishes as possible.

Melvin

I joined Kids in Need in 1996 but left for a few years due to business commitments. I rejoined 4 years ago and I enjoy the felling of being able to provide something that a child really wants and this is the reason I am on this committee.

Emma

My name is Emma, and like most have been involved in Kids in Need for many years, in fact since it began in 1982 as my father was one of the founding members. Over the years I have helped and taken part in most events and even abseiled down the water tower in Harlow in 2006!! (and it didn't even cure my fear of heights). In 2007 & 2008 I served as the Donations Officer, which was both challenging and extremely rewarding as all donations helped raise the much needed funds to grant wishes for very deserving children. In 2009 was actively involved in arranging wishes and organising events.
