Kirby Community Choir is open to anyone who enjoys the fun of singing in a choir, and that great feeling of sharing the achievement with fellow members. Rehearsals take place in the church hall on Tuesdays, 7.15-9pm. See Contact details below
Having bathed in the reflected glory of 2011's sell-out concert at The West Cliff Theatre the choir reassembled in a confident mood; but like all community groups we had to contend with illnesses, family bereavements and a few ‘retirements’ - not to mention several high profile international football matches which all seemed to be screened on our rehearsal night! That said by August 2012 we had grown to around 40 members in 18 months.
What shapes a community choir is the mutual respect that builds week after week for those who may be struggling with the words and music, yet are determined to reach the high level of performance expected.
Clearly our beloved Choir Mistress Ilze Robertson, has studied numerous videos of people engaged in extreme sports, and decided to a very challenging new programme designed to stretch our vocal talents and powers of recovery.
To have a Choir Mistress with such motivation anti commitment is rare. Alas, In her enthusiasm to demonstrate that one must also embrace the physicality of music she, unintentionally of course, managed to reduce our previous piano stool to a pile of rubble during a rehearsal. I’m pleased to say - she made a soft landing . . . .!
