May Day

Maypole

This traditional May Day celebration is organised annually on the May Bank Holiday by Leigh Town Counil. It takes place on Strand Wharf  along the High Street in Old Leigh, against the backdrop of wonderful estuary views. Celebrations include the cowning of the May queen, Mummers, Folk Music, Morris Dancing and of course Maypole Dancing.

May Day 2010

Celebrations began in in style with the crowning of the May Queen. This year we were lucky to have ‘Outloud Productions’ performing a life-size Punch and Judy show (hopefully without a real crocodile), music from ‘Arfur Doo and The Toe Rags’ and singing by Mick Spooner & Pete Hamlyn.

Our local, ever popular, ‘Borderdash’ Morris dancers performed and the 3rd Eastwood (St Davids Church) brownies entertained with their Maypole Dancing for the event.
