ONGAR TOWN SIGN
The Town sign stands in the centre of Chipping Ongar High Street as a reminder that Onger has a long history, and includes the communities of Shelley,Greensted and Marden Ash.The Town sign is based on an original design by Fred Dixon that was used in the inaugural document signed by both towns when the twinning arrangement with Cerizay was agreed.
Symbolic representations in the design reflect the early settlement around the castle (which looked nothing like the one depicted here!).
Also shown are St.Martins Church, the river and a ploughed field as a reminder of the major part agriculture has played in the life of the community.
