PLAY AREAS

The Town Council is responsible for four play areas that have been in use for many years. These are situated in Greensted Road, Love Lane, St Peter's Avenue and also Cerizay Garden just off the High Street behind the library.  It also has responsibility for a large recreation field.

The Council was pleased to open its new play area in St Peters Avenue in December 2006.  Children from the nearby Shelley Primary School and District Cllr. Caroline Pond attended the official opening.  The ribbon was cut by the youngest memebr of the school along with a retiring member of staff.  The play area was renamed Shelley Park and has been a great sucess, being well used by local residents.

Residents of Shelley may have noticed some recent improvements to the children’s play area.  Five-a-side goal posts have been installed to provide an area for local youngsters to play football away from the main play equipment. Trees that were broken recently have been replaced with more sturdy, mature trees.  A selection of trees was chosen including native cherry trees, mountain ash and silver birch.  It is hoped to include the children of Shelley School to assist with planting in the New Year.
