In July 2013 the Our Witham Steering Group agreed four projects to be set up around health and wellbeing, and skills and employment. Projects are currently being set up with a range of partner organisations and will be launching shortly.
If you would like to know more about any of these projects or are interested in volunteering or taking part, please email us firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01376 520400
What will it achieve? Jump Start is a fun approach to getting into or back into work for young people. We can offer help with job applications, writing CVs, thinking about career options, ways to get work experience, apprenticeships, getting into training and further/higher education. You might even have an idea for starting your own business which you want to explore with some support. We will also be providing inspirational talks from people in different walks of life as well as mentors who can give you support and give you a jump start to change.
It doesn’t matter if you are a school leaver, leaving university, or have found it hard to get into work or education. You might even be a young mum or dad looking to work a few hours. Come along and take part. If you want a Jump Start we can help.
What you could help with If you run a local business or are an entrepreneur could you spare an hour to provide inspiration and advice to young people? Perhaps you could offer some practical job taster sessions, or a longer period of work experience. Please help us to help young people.
What will it achieve? Young Entrepreneurs is a project aimed at giving young people the opportunity to try being an entrepreneur for a few weeks with a small cash start up (in the region of £10). Profits from the businesses will be ploughed back into giving more young people the opportunity to take part.
We can support young people to come up with initial business ideas, the business case and guide them through thinking about the marketing, manufacturing, or service aspects of their business idea.
What you could help with Are you a local business person who could give some time to explaining your business and the successes and pitfalls of setting up on your own and being your own boss? Could your business contribute to our seed fund to give young people a small cash start up to make their dreams a reality?
What will it achieve? Witham has a fantastic range of green spaces. This project will create ‘Green Guardians’ who will work to develop nature trails, plant wild flower meadows, develop habitats for wildlife, and develop interpretation boards. Do you like to get outdoors working with nature? Would some ‘space to think’ help you relax? Need some exercise? Or want to share or learn new skills? If so, this project is for you.
What you could help with Perhaps you could donate tools and equipment to young people for this project, or you might have horticultural or other skills you could offer to teach or mentor ‘Green Guardians’ with? Do you have other skills which might be helpful with this project such as helping to produce sculpture for a trail or helping with the interpretation boards?
What will it achieve? This project provides a young person centred space where they may find support for issues such as physical activity and healthy eating, substance misuse, sexual health, mental health, obesity, and the management of on-going and chronic illness. Initially this will take place in the Our Space pop-up shop.
What you could help with Are you a nutritionist, personal trainer or meditation expert who could offer time to this project to help young people establish healthy lifestyles?
