Chairman of Rayleigh Town Council 2013 - Cllr Ian Ward

'I am both honoured and privileged to have been elected as Chairman of Rayleigh Town Council for the ensuing municipal year.  I look forward to working with my fellow Councillors in continuing and adding to our many achievements for the people and town of Rayleigh.  My thanks go to Councillor Robin Dray, our previous Chairman, for his good work and dedication to the town during his year of office.

I have lived in Rayleigh for the past 6 years with my wife, though for several years prior to our move, we set our hearts on living in Rayleigh. By the time we were ready to move, our three children had left home, leaving us to move, on our own.  My working life started in Manufacturing Opthalmics, which I qualified in. Later I took exams in Medical Photography. My greatest passion was always music, where I had the great fortune to play in some great bands with great musicians, both as a full time and part professional drummer. I also worked within the Japanese business community for 20 years up to 2001. I starting my photographic business in the late 1990's in which I am still involved.

I am very proud to be a school governor at my local school, Grove Wood Primary School as well as being a Rochford District Councillor. I am passionate about the town and in maintaining its unique character and charm.  It is without doubt a great place to live and work.

We have a busy year ahead and the major projects and issues we will be dealing with are:  the Rayleigh Area Action Plan, a new snack bar and outdoor gym equipment in the King George V Playing Field, improvements at our allotment sites and the Lower Wyburns Woods and improvements and additions to our Christmas lights and CCTV for the town centre'.
