Great news .... we have our line up for RFHS 2017. Here are the  confirmed artists - and we start with our headline artists...

The Funky Voices Choir

The award winning Funky Voices ® was founded and launched in 2007 by Sandra Colston (Musical Director) …to meet a need in the community for something fresh and new, a choir that sing modern music that can be enjoyed by everyone, no audition and no experience needed.

Funky Voices sets itself apart from other community choirs offering singers a multitude of varied experiences ranging from once in a lifetime performance opportunities, chances to travel the world and also take part in the recording of albums. Every singer has the fantastic opportunity to learn up to 50 songs per year, perform at over 100 events, tour and compete in music festivals local and worldwide, record multiple albums for iTunes, appearances on TV and radio and perform alongside hugely established music artists.  All Funky Voices singers are given these incredible opportunities, although everyone is more than welcome to take as little or as much out of their experience as they would like to.

With passions for vocal harmonies, and personal influences being the likes of; Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Luther Vandross, Brian McKnight, Michael Jackson. The aim is to bring a similar vocal energy to Funky Voices… From emotional rich harmonies to feel-good dance tracks, our repertoire includes: Take That, Michael Jackson, Queen, Whitney and Stevie Wonder, making it an exciting and enjoyable experience for everyone.  Rather than soloists/limelight/dance actions, we concentrate on the choir creating a wall of sound, energy and passion, with all personalities shining through.

Funky Voices™ is not a 'conventional' choir being open to 16 ages to 100 who come from all walks of life, who meet up to sing weekly, and although most members are not trained singers, together they make a wonderful sound and are full of energy (and laughter).  Members are encouraged to sing/perform with their own personality and steer away from a cloned look.  Some join purely for singing, others for the social aspect too, and many because of the exciting sound the collective voice makes.

The Blues Spiders

The Blues Spiders draw upon the long established tradition of Thames Delta bands bringing you the best of blues classics and rhythm & blues.  The blues Spiders may be a new band but they are chock full of experience and meaty goodness (so they tell me)!  There's some blues classics, some fvourite R'n'B mixed with some self-penned material, all creating one serious 'Memphis Stew'.

The Blues Spiders are a Southend-on-Sea based band who have taken forward the blues and r 'n 'b heritage from such ‘Thames Delta’ acts as Mickey Jupp and Dr Feelgood. The line-up is Mitch Greaves (Harp & Vocals), Paul Henshaw (Bass), Russ Cottee (Guitars & Vocals) and Bob Clouter (Drums – ex-Mickey Jupp Band, Chicken Shack & Robin Trower).

Rather than serve up the same old menu of covers, the Blues Spiders play their own compositions, which draw on Chicago blues and swing, with a side-order of swampy Southern slide plus a few classics thrown in.

The band began in earnest in 2014 and in this short time has achieved the following: -

  • 2nd CD “Two” released in January 2016  - entered the IBBA airplay chart at #21 and made the IBBA ‘Picks of the Month’ for March 2016.  #6 in the March ’16 Chart.
  • Debut CD ‘All My Fault’ appeared in the UK Blues Radio airplay chart for 3 consecutive months.  Tracks played across the UK, Europe and US blues stations
  • Regular performers at music venues across Essex, including the much sought after Railway     Hotel, Southend, The New Crawdaddy Club, Blues At The Farm and the Boom Boom Club
  • Appeared in IBBA ‘Most Played Artists’ chart for 2016.
  • Performed a live session for The Blues Is Back radio programme and Friday Night Rocks
  • Performed in the 2014 Blues in the City Festival (on the same bill as Robin Bibi, Stray, Red      Butler and others), plus other minor festivals.
  • Co-Headlined the 2015 Essex Delta Blues Festival, headlining the 2016 event
  • Appeared at the 2015 Brownstock festival, The Fling and The Dover White Cliffs Blues Festival + others TBC.
  • 2016 Boogaloo Blues South Downs weekend and 2016 Colne R&B Festival.
  • Booked for 2017 Broadstairs Blues Bash, Stow Blues and Boogaloo Blues.
  • On the roster of regular performers at the legendary Ain’t Nothin’ But blues bar in Kingly Street, Soho.

RFHS 2017 welcomes The Blues Spiders and look forward to an explosion of sound to stir your musical juices.

More than just a "jeans and T shirt" tribute band, The Jam Project is a powerful reminder of the music from the best mod punk band of the 70's and 80's."

The Jam influenced a generation of teenage ''Mods'' when they broke into the music scene with their raw energetic sound of new wave/punk music.
TJP is a reminder and a celebration of that era, plying hits of The Jam from "77" to "81". Hit after hit, The Jam Project explode onto the stage, suited and with attention to detail of the early band, and blast out all your favourite Jam with the raw energetic sound that can only be The Jam.
