Fair Havens - Help Our Appeal
FAIR HAVENS – HELP OUR HOSPICE APPEAL · Fair Havens is part of Havens Hospices providing hospice care entirely free of charge, but the costs of doing so are high – £2.6 million a year· Donations for Fair Havens are 30% lower than the same time last year· This situation is not sustainable and we need the public’s support now to ensure we can continue to provide hospice care for future generations Why is there is a deficit?Donated income is down 30% compared to last year. Some of the reason for this will be the current economic climate and ‘credit crunch’. However, Fair Havens also suffers from competition from its counterpart, Little Havens, which cares for local children. We are addressing this by promoting Havens Hospices – the charity to which Fair Havens and Little Havens belong – which will enable funds to be directed to where they are most needed. How desperate is the situation?Without the intervention of local people, we will be facing a deficit of £500,000 against Fair Havens’ running costs. This will seriously deplete our reserves, leaving us with just one’s month’s running costs for Fair Havens in hand. This places us in a perilous position that we cannot ignore. What happens then?If we do not receive additional funds, we will have no option but to review our services. We cannot continue to run close on empty; we must build up our reserves to protect our services during difficult times. What services are at risk?· Beds in Fair Havens Hospice that give local people comfort, dignity and peace in a specialist and welcoming environment· Fair Havens Hospice at Home service, which provides end-of-life to care to people who wish, and are able, to stay in their own familiar surroundings with their loved ones· Fair Havens Macmillan nurses, who are paid for by Fair Havens, who offer help and specialist advice to those with cancer· Fair Havens bereavement and family support services that support the patient and their family through their loved one’s illness and death, and for as long as it needed afterwards. What needs to be done?To protect these services NOW and ensure that we have funding to sustain our vision of hospice care long into the future, we need to raise an additional £500,000 this year. By when does it need to be done?£250,000 by 31st March 2008 will cover our urgent and immediate need. To help us see if we can achieve this, we have set a target of raising £100,000 by Valentine’s Day on 14th February.
