Parent/Carer Survey 2007

Rowhedge Under Fives Pre-school Annual Parents Survey 2007
At Rowhedge Under 5’s Pre-school it is important to us that we continue to deliver the best possible service we can.  To this end in April 2006 the staff and committee got together and devised a questionnaire that could be used to measure the satisfaction of the parents and carers of the children who use our service.  The survey was repeated in June 2007 to see how far we had got in improving along with our customers feedback. This report summarises the responses that were received in response to the Survey Form distributed in June 2007.  15 forms were returned completed. Please note that % are to 0.01 correct.  Given the small sample size, percentage comparisons should be used with caution.
1. Are you happy with the provision we offer you and your child?   13 respondents (87%) circled that they were happy with the provision we offer.  2 (13%) circled that they were mostly happy. Conclusion: This is a good response and a standard that we will strive to maintain.
2. Do you find playgroup staff approachable? 14 (93%) respondents said that they found our staff approachable.  1 (7%) said circled that they ‘mostly’ find the staff are approachable. Conclusion: Again a good response and one we will strive to maintain.
3. Would you describe the playgroup environment as…? Respondents were asked to circle which elements they felt applied.  Not all respondents commented upon all the elements.

FUN – 12 (80%)CLEAN – 12 (80%)STIMULATING – 15 (100%)INVITING – 10 (67%)COLOURFUL – 11 (73%)SAFE – 13 (87%)

Conclusion – Encouraging to see that the environment is seen to stimulating.  Clearly we need to do some work in this year on making it more inviting.
4. Have you used the parent information table situated in the foyer?  10 (67%) respondents said that they had used the information table.  5 (33%) said that they had not. Conclusion:  Last year the parent information table was a new introduction to Rowhedge Under 5’s.  It is good to see that it is gradually being used more in comparison with last year.
4a. Are you aware that you can request copies of any info required?  10 (67%) respondents said that they were aware, 5 (33%) said that they were not. Conclusion:  Linked to the above.  It is encouraging to see that this facility is being made more use of in comparison with last year.
5. We work within the guidelines of the foundation stage curriculum ‘Stepping Stones’ do you have an understanding of this? 14 (93%) respondents circled that they had some understanding of the ‘Stepping Stones’ Foundation Curriculum. 1 (7%) said that they did not.  Conclusion: Pre-school staff have been working to promote knowledge of this on a 1:1 basis with parents and carers.  More general information should be available via our planned ‘Parents Booklet’ and our Website during this year.
6. Have you heard of ‘Birth to Three Matters’?  10 (67%) respondents said that they had heard of ‘Birth to Three Matters’, 5 (13%) said that they had not. Conclusion: As above.  This information needs to be made available to Parents and Carers on a 1:1 as well as a more general level.
7. Do you have an understanding of what ‘SEN’ (Special Educational Needs) means and stands for?  12 (80%) respondents circled that they had an understanding of what ‘SEN’ stood for.  3 (20%) said that they did not. Conclusion:  Again as above – we need to improve our communication in how ‘educational frameworks’ underpin our every day activities.
8. Would you find an open evening helpful in relation to the above items 5, 6 and 7?  Not everyone chose to answer this question.  9 (60%) respondents were in favour of having an open evening, 5 (40%) indicated that they would not find this useful. Conclusion: We need to find a format for making this information available to the widest audience of Parents and Carers.  It is likely that we will continue to do this through a variety of means.
9. Do you feel that your child is happy attending Rowhedge Under 5’s?  9 (60%) said that they felt that their child (or children) were happy,  6 (40%) said that their child(ren) were ‘mostly’ happy.  This result is congruent with the responses in question14 where parents and carers want their children to gain confidence, to learn and to be able to relate to peers, all of which can be challenging for children.
10. Are you clear who your child’s key worker is?  All 15 respondents (100%) indicated that they know who their children’s Key Worker is. Conclusion:This is a very good response and follows on from last years progress.
11. Are you confident your child is actively learning whilst at Rowhedge Under 5’s?  Given the importance placed on learning by parents and carers in their responses to Question 14 it is good to note that 14 (93%) of respondents circled that they were confident that their child(ren) were learning, 1 (7%) indicated that they were ‘mostly’ confident. Conclusion: This positive result is due mostly to the individual work that staff have undertaken with both children and their parents and carers to link their everyday experiences into learning outcomes.
12. Does your child talk about what they have been doing at playgroup?  7 (47%) respondents circled that their child talked about what they had been doing, one of these added ‘always’.  5 (33%) said that  their child ‘sometimes’ told them what they had been doing and 3 (20%) circled that their child(ren) did not talk to them about their morning at Rowhedge Under 5’s. Conclusion: This result was also a ‘mixed bag’ last year.  Difficult to draw any conclusions.

14. What do you hope/expect that your child will gain from their time at Rowhedge Under 5’s? Not all respondents chose to make a comment in the box provided.  All comments are listed below with children’s names, where used, removed to protect confidentiality.

  • Confidence, Friendships, Discipline (when to listen, when to sit still), Learning the alphabet
  • It is our expectation and hope that above all else our daughter enjoys her time at Under 5’s and that along the way she experiences being part of a larger group of peers whilst developing appropriate relationships with adults in entrusted positions of responsibility outside of her usual circle of family and friends

  • To learn social skills and to play, share and enjoy spending time with other children
  • To learn social skills and to play, share and enjoy spending time with other children
  • Confidence, free expression, able to stand up for himself
  • Confidence is important – but mostly a happy experience and fond memories of her time at such a super pre-school

Conclusion:  Parents and Carers have broadly the same expectation of the services provided by Rowhedge Under 5’s in that they wish for their child(ren) to have the opportunities to  relate to their peers, learn social skills and thus become more confident about learning for the years ahead.

Any other comments?
