The meeting was convened by Springfield WI and a warm welcome was given to visiting WIs by the President Maureen Peek, who then introduced The Tyrrells Primary School who sang several songs.
Celia Kerslake gave a vote of thanks to the school and presented the teacher with a basket of flowers prepared by Frances Fremont. The children had performed recently at the O2 Arena in a special schools choir event. This started off the afternoon on a very happy note.
Anne O'Riordan from Boreham WI introduced the afternoon and said it was a good opportunity for the WIs in the Mildmay Group (namely: Boreham, Hadfelda, Little Baddow, Sandon and Springfield afternoon) to be together. The minutes of the last meeting were read and signed and Anne then gave out details of some forthcoming events from National and the WI Centre.
We then heard each WI read out their poem for the competition, (Sandon's was written and read out by Val Chiswell). The judge was one of the teachers from The Tyrrells Primary School who teaches poetry to the children. The winner of the Poetry Competition was Springfield WI.
Tea was then served, when we had scones and a delightful selection of cakes. After tea the quiz answers were read out and the quiz was won by Little Baddow WI. The raffle was then drawn with the prizes all depicting music. Sandon who had 10 members attending the meeting were fortunate enough to win 6 raffle prizes.
The afternoon was drawn to a close with a vote of thanks given by Virginia Strange from Hadfelda WI.
