Friends of Flitch Way
Clearing the banks at the Dunmow

create a new butterfly ride.

The Friends group was set up initially in August 2004 to assist the Flitch Way Rangers with their projects and maintenance in the Country Park.

As well as working along the Flitch Way Country Park we work in Garnetts Wood near Barnston, Tarecroft near Rivenhall, Levelly Wood near Shalford, Border Wood near Little Waltham, Black- water Rail Trail (Witham to Maldon Railway Line) & the Colne Valley Linear Park at White Colne.

Since September 2005 we have formed a committee, written our own constitution and become a charitable organisation.
Our aim is to bring together local, like-minded people with an interest in the outdoors, being active and with conservation interests
who want to improve the parks, woodlands and wildlife in their community for the benefit of everyone.

Under guidance of the Country Park Rangers we tackle a whole variety of jobs such as coppicing hazel, pond regeneration, scrub and ditch clearance, rubbish clearing, hedge planting and Way marking path ways to name but a few. We try to visit one site for 3-4 weeks so that the task gets completed as our volunteers like to see a job finished properly before going on to the next one.
The group have also acted as recorders for wildlife species such as Great Crested Newts in the local ponds and Butterfly surveys on local farmland. On behalf of Parish Paths Partnership (P3), the Friends have recently been involved with surveying and marking of local footpaths and improving access
