Government Has Awarded £17.3 Million To Newham Council To Create 2000 More Primary School PlacesNewham Council is one of only 34 authorities in the country to be awarded a Government capital grant to ease the pressure on primary school places. The new primary school places will be for children aged 3-11.
Newham's birth rate has increased by over 25% in the past 5 years and this funding will go towards ensuring that all Newham's children have a school place.
The majority of the places will be created at Brampton Primary School in East Ham; Dersingham Infant School in Manor Park; Sheringham Junior School in Manor Park; Avenue Primary School in Manor Park and Vicarage Primary School in East Ham.
The Government puts the increase in pupil numbers is down to a number of factors, including changes in the housing market in the current economic climate, and also increased demand in the state sector due to better local schools and in some cases less demand for independent places.
