Community Group

The Chignals and Mashbury Community Group

A new voluntary group has been set up to encourage and enhance community activities in what is

already a great place to live!

The idea was an outcome of the Parish Plan Launch morning when some villagers volunteered to start up this new group .

The community groups aim is to bring our clubs together in joint ventures, to kick start other clubs and also to organise community events, sometimes fundraising for a particular cause.

We are a group of 9 villagers who have already put our heads together to thrash out many ideas of activities and events people would like to see take place.

We have two dates for you to put in your diaries – another litter picking morning on Saturday 7th October (see separate article) and due to public demand, the return of the Halloween night on Friday 27th October at 6.30 pm (see separate article)

We do hope that you would like to support any future events and activites and come along when you can.

To find out more about the group, pass on ideas or if you would like to join our group in making things happen, please email chigandmashcommunitygroup@hotmail.com

* Not every village organisation is represented so far. If your club is not represented and you would like to fill in the gap, please let us know!

What a load of rubbish!

October Chignal Villages Litter Pick

Saturday 7th October at 10 am.

Due to the amount of rubbish that finds its way onto our verges, it has been decided to trial a mid year litter pick on the 7th October at 10 am, starting from and finishing at The Three Elms Pub. Many of us already pick up rubbish during the year, but it was felt that there is still enough rubbish out there to warrant another village clear up.

This is the first event to be organised by the community group (see earlier article) and we very much welcome your support.

Whilst we can obtain the equipment from the City council, unfortunately we will not be provided with the means to dispose of the rubbish. Therefore we ask as many people as possible to join in with the litter pick and collect just one bag of rubbish each that you can then dispose of in your own black bin. We will have people driving round to take pickers where there is most need and take the bags back to your home. Large items will be reported to the City Councils fly tipping dept.

We aim to finish by 11.30 to meet at The Three Elms for coffee or an early lunch.

So, come and join in for a worthwhile cause, a chat, a walk and a gathering afterwards.

If you can help in any way, please email the Community group on chigandmashcommunitygroup@hotmail.com or call Sandra on 07909564905

 Many thanks

HALLOWE'EN FAMILY FUN EVENING

AN EVENING OF SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWE'EN FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY!

Join us if you dare..............

A Hallowe’en family fun evening will take place on Friday 27th October commencing in the Jubilee Orchard with a ‘Pumpkin Parade’.

Park in the village hall car park and make your way on foot through the playing field to the orchard where you will be given LED lights for your carved pumpkin lanterns. Hopefully we’ll be a sight to behold as we all parade back through the playing field to the hall with our lanterns blazing!

If you haven’t got a pumpkin bring any kind of lantern or torch but no naked flames please. We’ll display our lanterns in the hall ready for judging. There’ll be prizes for both adults and children for the best pumpkin lanterns and costumes.

A supper of jacket potatoes and sausages will be served followed by traditional desserts and tea or coffee. During the evening you can have a go at bobbing for apples (the dry version), scary cupcake decorating for the kids, pumpkin hoopla and a raffle.

Tickets are £5 in advance and include LED lights and entry into the carved pumpkin lantern and best costume competitions, supper, kids’ soft drinks and tea or coffee. BYOB and glasses.

 Email: chigandmashcommunitygroup@hotmail.com for tickets.

ALL CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT THROUGHOUT THE EVENING AND EVERYONE SHOULD WEAR SUITABLE SAFETY CLOTHING OUTSIDE. CHILDREN ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THEIR PARENTS/CARERS
