THE VOLUNTEER CENTRE TENDRING

The Volunteer Centre Tendring exists to help the community of Tendring by acting as a recruitment agency for volunteer involving organisations and providing prospective volunteers with access to information about volunteering opportunities.

Our main office is at Imperial House, 22 Rosemary Road, Clacton but we also have branch offices at;
Park Pavilion, Barrack Street Harwich (Tue & Thur,
Ironside Walk, Manningtree (Mondays),
61 High Street, Walton-on-Naze (Wed & Fri).

All of our offices are normally open between 10.00am and 3.00pm

The Volunteer Centre Tendring also runs three volunteer supported community service projects; Helping Hands, Guiding Hands and the Community Information Directory.

VOLUNTEERING

Centre staff will be happy to guide you by taking your registration and discussing;

-The type of voluntary work that interests you
-The skills and experience that you can offer
-Your availability
-Location of volunteer placement
-Training courses, if required

If you wish to register, please call the centre to arrange a convenient appointment time and location.

VOLUNTEER INVOLVING ORGANISATIONS

We hold a database of current volunteering opportunities and we can help by including your organisation’s details and referring people to you as they pass through our doors or respond through our other marketing activities.
Please feel free to call us for advice.

HELPING HANDS

If you are aged 60 and over or are younger and disabled we may be able to help you with transport and other tasks.

Transport: Volunteers use their own cars and normally wait for you to complete your appointment or shopping. They may be able to give assistance where necessary. There is no charge for waiting as our drivers are all volunteers but there is a fuel charge for the transport itself. 48 hours notice is generally required. For further details and an application pack, please contact the office.

Other tasks: These may be 'one off' tasks that you are unable to do for yourself and no one else is available to do it for you. e.g. Changing curtains, small repairs or maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and fuses. No charge is made for doing these jobs, however any material or travel costs are paid by you.

Wheelchair Pushing

as with other projects, travel costs need to be paid.

GUIDING HANDS

If you have had a problem with aggressive doorstep salesman or unreliable builders we may be able to help avoid any future problems. Our Guiding Hands scheme will find an experienced volunteer to help you negotiate for large purchases and maintenance work such as double glazing, exterior painting, plumbing and roofing. Guiding Hands also has a list of reputable companies that have been recommended by users of the scheme and volunteers. Our volunteers can help you apply for quotes and assist your decision on which option is best for you. The final decision to accept a quote will be left to you.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION DIRECTORY

The Volunteer Centre Tendring maintains a computerised database of community organisations and services throughout the Tendring area.

**********************************************
Please note that all assistance given is subject to the availability of the volunteers at any given time. As an example a very early start, a late finish or help on a bank holiday may be harder for us to arrange.

For access to all of the help offered by these projects, there is a small annual registration fee which helps us fund administration costs.

To join the scheme or enquire about joining, please call the office during office hours and request a pack. All arrangements should be made through the Clacton office so properly identified volunteers can be asked to help you.
