Christmas warnings

The festive period can provide a great opportunity for thieves, as everyone is busy getting ready.

Everyone wants the latest technology-the most up to date mobile phone, that new MP3 player, or satellite navigation systems for the car, unfortumately so do thieves. What can you do?

Essex Police and neighbourhood watch are encouraging everyone to visit www.immobilise.com This free web site, where you can keep an secure online inventory of your property, can help you get back your belongings in case of theft, but will also help you fill out insurance claims, should the worse happen. As well as securing the latest technology, you can list antiques and collectables and other property. The web site is fast to register on and if your belongings do get stolen they will be automatically cross referenced with the UK National Police Stolen Property Database. This will stop thieves in their tracks, making it hard for them to re-sell your possessions and increase the chance of them being returned to you.

As an added method of security, key in *MESSAGE KEY MISSING: '06' on your mobile. This will give you your phones IMEI number. Register this number, and in the event of theft you can contact your telecoms provider and get the phone `disabled ` and rendered useless.

You can also post code your possessions, simply use a U/V pen and mark each item with your Post Code and house number or first three letters of your house name. We have the pens available at the Police station Every Friday 9/12 at £1.00.

GRAFFITI WITHIN THE BASILDON DISTRICT

Within the Basildon District, we are currently trying to combat the problem with Graffiti within the District. To try and

identify those responsible, your local police have created a graffiti tag library. Photographs of graffiti will be stored

within a central database, should we arrest anyone responsible for a specific tag is identified, the database will be

used to identify all the locations this tag has been displayed and used during the interview of the suspect.

This system should not be used to record the graffiti as a form of criminal damage, should you wish to officially record

the incident as criminal damage, please contact your local police station, this system is to be used to contact

your local Neighbourhood Specialist Officer and add the tag to the centralised database.

This is where we need your help, a special email address has been established to email your photos of local graffiti.
