Village Design Statement (VDS)
The Writtle VDS was published in February 2004. Its aim is to manage change within the parish of Writtle and is a statement of how local people want the built environment to look in the years and decades ahead. It was the outcome of much consultation in the preceding years.
It was adopted as Planning guidance by Chelmsford Borough Council Executive on 2nd December 2003. Planning Applications in Writtle are judged against the policies set out in the VDS.
How to obtain a copy of the Village Design Statement
A PDF copy of the VDS is here though it does not contain the map - see below. (It is 2.6mb - easy on broadband but longer on dial up.)
You can obtain a high-quality, printed version (A4 booklet) from the Clerk to Writtle Parish Council on 01245-420066 or email him.
The map that is in the centre pages of the actual document can be downloaded separately. It is of the central (built up) area of the parish. There are two versions of it: a low resolution JPEG picture (200k) here and a high-quality PDF version (2.5mb) here.
Thanks to the supporters
The VDS was developed using grants and funding from: Writtle Parish Council, The Rural Community Council of Essex and The Local Heritage Initiative (a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Nationwide Building Society and the Countryside Agency).
