The parish council seeks to get our fair share of their attention and budget. Typical matters that are brought to our attention are: -
- Pot holes
- Missing signposts
- Grass verge cutting
- Drainage and flooding
We have long standing campaigns to improve car parking in School Lane, Abbess; and to lower the speed limit on the B184. We have been assured several times that the improved parking is on a list to be done.
The district council (Link) looks after Public Rights of Way (PRoW’s) on behalf of ECC. Our parish is well endowed with footpaths; the Three Forests Way traverses the middle of the parish, and the Essex Way passes through the edge of Berners. There are also a few bridleways and byways. The ordnance survey explorer maps show PRoW’s; our parish is on map 183. The parish council holds a copy of the ‘definitive’ map of PRoW’s. that may be examined on request.
The ‘Right to Roam’ Act (properly named ‘The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000) created open access to mountain, moor and heath. There are no mountains, moors or heaths in our parish so we have no ‘right to roam’ in this area.
