Billericay celebrates the sailing of the Mayflower
2020 is the 400th anniversay of the sailing of tne Mayflower from Plymouth to the New World in 1620.
As part of the local programme of events, we will perform The Mayflower Pilgrims, written by Clive Jenkin, at our concert on 4th July at 7.30 pm.
This work was premiered in 2005, at St Andrew’s Church Plymouth, where the Pilgrim Fathers worshipped before setting off on their journey to America.
The words for The Mayflower Pilgrims come from William Bradford’s History of Plimouth Plantation and Henry Ainsworth’s The Book of Psalmes.
William Bradford was Governor of the colony. He is credited as the first to proclaim what America views as the first Thanksgiving.
Henry Ainsworth’s The Book of Psalmes was the source of all the Pilgrim Father’s singing at church assemblies for many years after their arrival in the New World.
Our first concert in 2020 will be on 21st March Bach To Beatles
We will explore the pieces that helped shape the history of vocal music as we know it, from baroque masterpieces to the popular solo and choral classics of our day.
