Deafblind UK is a national charity offering specialist services and support to people who have both a sight loss and a hearing loss acquired throughout their lives. Having a dual sensory impairment affects the way people can communicate, access information and get out and about. Our portfolio of services includes Communicator Guides to enable deafblind people to access local services like GP appointments or shopping, a free telephone Information and Advice Line, volunteer befrienders and access to local groups. There are over 1000 people in our county who cope day to day with combined sight and hearing loss. Many of our members would like the company of a volunteer befriender or access to a group (deafblind club). We currently have group meetings in Colchester, Clacton, Basildon, Brentwood, Loughton, Uttlesford, Chelmsford, Harlow, Witham, Maldon and Canvey and aim to be opening further new deafblind clubs in other areas of Essex. There is an ongoing need for volunteer help to assist with transport, refreshments, guiding on outings and other general duties.  By introducing a volunteThese are currently held in Harlow, Basildon and Chelmsford.
If anyone is interested in finding out more about becoming a befriender or club helper then please contact myself  Steph Moon via email moons@deafblind.org.uk or call on 07900 738694
