Accessed from two points in St Mary’s Close, the John Barr playing field is an enclosed grassed play area, bordered by hedgerows and trees, with play equipment for children of varying ages, bench seating, and a full sized football pitch with goal posts and nets. The area also includes allotments that can be rented by Panfield residents, for a small annual fee, from the Parish Council. Visit the Allotments page for details.

John Barr playing field is managed by Panfield Parish Council, under a long term, rent-free, lease agreement from Braintree District Council.


ThistledownThistledown Field

Accessed from either of two points from Thistledown, or footpaths: 2, 18.19, and 26, Thistledown field is a large grassed recreation area, mainly edged by hedgerows and trees, including specimen and commemorative trees. The area also includes an ‘artwork-seat’, a pond, and areas that are left uncultivated to encourage wildlife and biodiversity. There is also a multisport wall. Essex Wildlife Trust completed a survey of the pond towards the end of 2018 and submitted its report to the Parish Council in March 2019,

Thistledown field is managed by Panfield Parish Council and owned by the residents of Panfield.

Located along Kynaston Road, the Village Green has recently been acquired by the Parish Council for the benefit of the residents of the village. The village sign is situated here and there are plans to improve the area as funds become available. The Green is also managed by Panfield Parish Council.
