Subject: Closure of SWCHS Summer Swim Club.
It is with regret that the pool committee has to inform you, the club members, that the summer swim club will no longer run.
SWCHS informed us there is no longer any funding for running costs and repairs.
Having looked at these costs as a committee it's clear that the swim club cannot afford them on an annual basis.
We would like to thank the school for their support which has enabled us to run the swim club until 2011.
The SWCHS Pool Committee.
ABOUT THE POOL
We are very fortunate in this town to have access to this very pleasant full size heated outdoor pool. The pool is located on the SWCHS site, behind the sports centre.
It is available during the summer months. The school maintains the pool and provides changing rooms for the use of the members.
Lifeguards seeking summer employment, including any Co High Students aged 16 plus, should contact the club now.
If you want to be on our mailing list in 2011 join the website now (see 'join this website').
New facilities including a single toilet and 2 small changing rooms (M&F) with cold showers are being built. This gives us independence from the Sports Centre which can then remain secure. These sd be finished early in the season, after which time we will no longer need access to the school building.
HOW TO JOIN - go to joining up page
To use the pool you must join 'SWCHS PTA and Friends' and pay a fee, each family must sign up to a rota to supervise the pool for 2 sessions, no qualifications are needed as qualified lifeguards are employed. You may not bring young children with you to this session, as you will not be able to assist the lifeguards in the event of an emergency.
Members also have part time use of the tennis courts (ie when they are not hired out to paying sports centre customers or clubs).
Details of membership will be circulated via Parent Mail or school book bags in May 2010. The 2011 application form will be available on the website, from outside a published address, from SW Tourist Info & the library. The date for the signing up evening (usually early May) will be announced around Easter time, you will be required to attend a meeting and sign up for (non qualified) duties supervising poolside .After this date if you wish to join you will be allocated 2 dates for supervising and it will be your responsibility to swap with another member if they prove to be unsuitable. So better to come along. (You may send a representative if you cannot attend.)
Applications for membership are welcomed from families attending a feeder primary school for SWCHS or pupil's of SWCHS. Members must also agree to a list of rules, which are provided at the time of joining and are on this website - see 'Rules'.
THANKS.... Thanks to everyone in 2010 who turned up on time to do their duty and for participating on the smooth running of the club.
Thanks also to all the lifeguards who also unfailingly turned up in all kinds of weather and kept us all safe.
We are indebted to the school for providing the facility and to the ground staff, especially the school caretaker, for the tireless work monitoring the pool water quality, which is monitored twice daily all season.
The water temperature is at a very comfortable 80 degrees, so the pool is useable even on a cool day.
There is car parking available at the front of the Sports Centre (lower school car park).
There are toilets and showers on site and pool side decking for those not swimming. Lane swimming is available in the evening during the school holidays.
Qualified lifeguards are on duty, these are usually SWCHS students.
However, it is the parents responsibilty to watch their own children and to be dressed appropriately to enter the water to assist them.
We are often looking for lifeguards so if you are interested in summer work, please contact 01799 501194.
The club is run as a charity, 'SWCHS PTA and Friends' with a committee running it's affairs.
We are currently actively looking for new committee members, if you think you could spare some time, please contact the club (email email@example.com). As a charity any funds we raise during the summer over and above the costs of running the pool are given to the school for educational use.
MEMBERS USE THIS POOL AT THEIR OWN RISK.
Capacity -150 full memberships - membership sold out early in 2010, so respond promptly to avoid disappointment.
