Thank you for all the support you have shown to your local community, as it is my most sincere wish that this continues.

As we race rapidly towards the end of 2011, I would like to make you aware of some local issues:-

  1. You may have noticed information sheets attached to trees throughout our local woodlands. These are to make you aware that Essex County Council (ECC) intends to proactively manage our woodlands. The first activity will begin this winter in a small area of Great Wood.

Details are available via the parish clerk or from Brian Stacey at Essex County Council:-

                             Telephone: 01245 437690

                        e-mail: brian.stacey@essex.gov.uk

                             Internet: www.essexcc.gov.uk

  1. The new swings and picnic benches have been installed in the Pancroft playground and it’s good to see the new adult gym equipment being so well used on the village hall site. Please be aware that signs will soon be installed, making it clear that dogs are not allowed in any of the local play areas, including the area contained within the green semi-circular fence at the top half of the Pancroft green.

  1. At the start of the new year, you will start to see members of your local community taking positive action, to make our community a safer place. This will consist of concerned residents taking part in the initiative to monitor vehicle speeds through our villages. Should you wish to join this initiative (the more members the better), please contact the parish clerk or contact PC Andy Cook on 07779 317211 or via the Neighbourhood Action Panel meeting, (date to be agreed).

Please also note, that the local police have informed us that they will be actively pursuing those remaining motorists, who insist on parking their vehicles on the pavement, forcing pedestrians to take unnecessary risks by walking in the road. They intend to either send motorists a warning letter or a fixed penalty notice. They are convinced, that sufficient and safe off-street and on street parking is available. They do not intend to persecute those motorists that need to temporarily stop to either un-load or to enable an elderly or disabled person easy access to their properties. Please also remember that to enable the bus and refuse collectors to safely move through the narrow roads in the village, that it helps if the cars all park on the same side of the road.

Do please remember, that these activities are to make our community a safer place for all, not to victimise any particular individual.

If you do witness a crime to either property or person please call ‘999’, this also applies if you believe a crime is about to take place. But if you wish to report an incident, of the pavement being blocked or a person or vehicle behaving in a suspicious way, please dial the non-urgent police number ‘101’ or ‘0300 333 4444’. They would rather you voiced your suspicions and called them, than have to respond to a 999 call when the situation could have become far more serious.

Our best wishes to those that may be feeling poorly at this time and I hope the New Year brings you all that you would wish for and don’t forget, there is always a warm welcome at the monthly Parish Council meetings, to this end FREE, yes FREE Tea, Coffee AND Biscuits will be available at some time before, during or after the meeting. Please attend and make a difference in your community.
