Fundraising is Family Affair
A family from Canvey is celebrating after raising over 17,000 for Havens Hospices during eight years of musical faundraising events.
Anne Earl, aged 61 from Canvey, and her husband Ivor, also aged 61, set up 'Rock for Havens Sake' fundraising group in 2006. The couple is joined by their two sons, Dave,33, and Steve, 37 and grandchildren Chloe (15), Jade (13) and Emily (12) in their fundraising efforts in aide of local charity Havens Hospices which incorporates Fair Havens Hospice in Westcliff and Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley. over eight years the group have held five 'Rock for Havens Sake' music fetivals as well as two special events with local band The Trolleyboys. Together these events have raised 17,229.28 for the charity which cares for seriously ill children and adults when they have been told there is no cure for their illness.
The Group began their fundraising after Anne and Ivor heard a talk about the charity. They decided they wanted to do something to help local families who were being cared for by the hospices and through the whole family's love of music, 'Rock for Havens Sake' was born

Anne said, ''It's a real family affair with so many of ur friends and family getting involved at every event. After the first event was such a great success, we realised thesse events were the perfect place to help local people, showcase young local talent and have a really enjoyable time ourselves. The events attract lots of young people, many of whom may not be aware about the care the hospices provide, so we're also helping aise awareness at the same time''.
The group's next event is 'An Evening of Song with Gai Glaysher and the Funky Voices Choir' on Sunday 15th June 2014. Taking place at The Mill Art and Events Centre, on Bellingham Lane, Rayleigh, the event starts Gari Glaysher, a natural spinto tenor, and the community based 'Funky Voices choir'.
Anne Added, ''This is a brand new event for us and we're really excited to be bringing Gari and the chir to local people. Gari debuted at the Indigo2 in 2008 and is currently finishing his fourth album, he sings everything from rock and pop to show stoppers and opera. It is going to be a fantstic evening of entertainment. I hope that lots od people will join us on the night in support of the specialist care the hospices provides free to local people.'' Tickets cost 20.00 which includes a buffet meal. For tickets please contact Anne Earl on 07828 013043 o for moe information visit their website.
Hilary Metcalfe, Community Fundraiser for Havens Hospices, said, ''I can't thank the Earl famiy enough for all the support they have given their local hospices over the years. Their events are fantastic and really bring the community together. When a family has been told there is no cure for their loved ones illness, our hospices help by offering respite, managing pain and medication and caring for children and adults at the end of their lives. We also support the whole family before and after their loved one has died. All of this is free of charge and that is only possible because of the support of the community. so I'd like to say a massive thank you to everybody who has supported 'Rock for Havens Sake' in the past and encourage everybody to go along to this next event.''
