SUPERVISING

On the signing up evening a rota covering every single hour the pool is open is provided, each family must sign up to supervise the pool for 2 to 3 sessions, no qualifications are needed as qualified lifeguards are employed.

The rota is published online(after 11/5) and poolside (19/6). Keep checking the rota for changes as you will not be informed if your shift has been reallocated.

Swimming club supervisors are parent members and do NOT have life guard qualifications.

Supervisors are co-opted by the committee to provide adult cover to support the lifeguards when the pool is open.

Their attendance is a very important stipulation of our insurance and must be adhered to.

Every single member of the association is responsible for the safe running of their session. Please take these duties seriously.

SUPERVISORS MUST BE VIGILANT AND  SHOULD NOT BE CHATTING OR READING - You may not bring young children with you to this session,  as you will not be able to deal with an emergency.

OPENING THE POOL
Under no circumstances allow anyone poolside until the covers have been removed by the lifeguards - extremely dangerous as a child could slip under the covers unnoticed.

CLOSING THE POOL
For the same reason, the covers should not be replaced until all swimmers/members have left the vicinity.

ESSENTIAL BRING YOUR MOBILE TO THE SESSION, needed for contacting other lifeguards/supervisors OR CALLING FOR HELP IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.

ESSENTIAL The pool absolutely must not open without two lifeguards, one acting as first aider AND an adult supervisor present poolside.
When any of these three leaves the poolside for a break, even for 5 minutes, the pool must be emptied of swimmers.
Break times for lifeguards are published on the opening hours page.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL YOU ATTEND YOUR SESSION, or the pool WILL NOT OPEN for that session.

 • Supervisors MUST find a replacement if they are unable to make allocated sessions. DO NOT ASK A MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE TO DO THIS FOR YOU. Member information is kept pool side and online.
Your absence will mean other pool members will not be able to swim. Please make a careful note of your sessions, check it against the rota when it is published online and poolside.

• Turn up for duty regardless of weather  - pool is emptied of swimmers only during thunderstorms and is very definitely open if it is raining - or pouring! Pool closes at lifeguards discretion.

• If a lifeguard fails to turn up for a session, attempt to contact them or replace them with another lifeguard, if someone is available at short notice. Lifeguard information is available pool side.

If this fails, contact on duty committee member (rota poolside), or make a decision about closing the pool in consultation with lifeguard who is present.

Qualified lifeguards are on duty, however, it is the parents responsibilty to watch their own children and to be dressed appropriately to enter the water to assist them.
Ensure attending parents are ready and able to do so.

In addition to the enforcement of club rules, duties include:

• Signing members in and out of tennis courts, see poolside tennis court booking info.
• Supporting life guards in the event of any breaches of the rules by members and visitors.
