Telephone Kiosk Saved - December 2008

The Town Council has recently officially sponsored the K6 telephone at Gun Gardens in Frinton on Sea.  The kiosk was to have been removed by British Telecom.  However, pressure by the Town Council and others across the country lead to a scheme of sponsorship and adoption.  For £500 per annum the Town Council has saved this kiosk as a working telephone box.  The Town Council received a grant of £250.00 from Tendring District Council towards the first year's sponsorship.  The Town Council also received an offer of a matching £250.00 from the nearby restaurant, "The Last Viceroy of British India" but, unfortunately, sponsorship rules precluded acceptance,  As soon as the paperwork has been finalised by British Telecom the Town Council will attempt to bring this historic building up to the Town Council's usual high standards.
